Itinerary

Day 1: Guided Tour in Aswan

Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Aswan, the airport, or the Aswan bus or train station. Start your tour in Aswan with a visit to the Aswan High Dam, an engineering marvel built in the 1960s. From the top of the High Dam, you will see Lake Nasser, the Kalabsha Temple to the south, and the massive power station to the north. Next, visit the Unfinished Obelisk at Aswan's granite quarries, where much of the red granite used in ancient temples and colossi was extracted. The Unfinished Obelisk remains where it was carved after a crack was discovered during extraction. Your qualified Egyptologist guide will explain how this one-ton obelisk was carved and why the crack left it incomplete. The last of Aswan’s three famous sites is considered the best. The Philae Temple was carefully relocated to its current location (about 500 meters from its original site) when the construction of the High Dam caused the surrounding Nile waters to rise. A short boat ride will take you to the island, where your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the temple before allowing you to explore on your own. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, the Philae Temple has a beautiful setting on a river island that has been landscaped to match its original location. At the end of your tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Aswan.

Day 2: Guided Tour to Abu Simbel and Train from Aswan to Luxor

Early in the morning, start your journey to visit the Abu Simbel Temple, an impressive monument from ancient Egypt built by Ramses II into a sandstone cliff. Marvel at the depictions of deities carved into the massive temple façade. Nearby, also visit the smaller temple dedicated to the King’s wife, Nefertari, dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Enjoy a comfortable transfer back to Aswan. Then, transfer to Aswan train station to take the train from Aswan to Luxor. Upon arrival at Luxor train station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Luxor for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Guided Tour of Luxor’s East and West Banks

Start the day by visiting the West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings, which houses 66 tombs from various dynasties. Next, continue to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and learn about the history of Egypt’s only female ruler. On the way back, stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive seated statues of Amenhotep III overlooking the Nile. Then, head to Karnak Temple, a series of temples built during different reigns. At the end of the day, you will be transferred back to your hotel, the airport, the Luxor train station, or your preferred drop-off location in Luxor.
